Privacy Policy
Updated May 2025
Welcome to Brief.me (“Brief.me,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Brief.me application, website, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).
If you do not agree with the terms of this Policy, please do not access or use the Services.
1. Information We Collect
We gather information in four primary ways:
Account & Contact Data
Information you provide directly—such as your name, email address, password, billing details, and any data you include in support tickets.Connected-Service Content
Data retrieved through the integrations you authorize (e.g., Gmail emails, Slack messages, Asana tasks, calendar events, and related metadata like timestamps and channel IDs). We access only what you permit via OAuth or similar mechanisms.Generated Data
Content Brief.me creates to deliver the core experience, including daily email briefs, text-to-speech audio files, summaries, and usage logs.Technical & Usage Data
Automatically collected details such as IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, pages viewed, links clicked, cookies, and crash logs.
Payment information is processed by our third-party payment processor; we do not store full credit-card numbers on our servers.
2. How We Use Your Information
We process your information to:
Provide the Services – authenticate you, connect to external platforms, generate briefs, and deliver emails and audio files.
Improve and customize – refine features, train algorithms, troubleshoot, and develop new functionality.
Communicate with you – send transactional messages, product updates, security alerts, and customer-support responses.
Process payments – manage subscriptions, invoices, refunds, and discounts.
Ensure security – detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents.
Comply with legal obligations – satisfy laws, regulations, and lawful requests.
Our legal bases under EU/UK GDPR include performance of a contract, legitimate interests, consent (where required), and compliance with legal obligations.
3. How We Share Information
We never sell your personal information. We disclose it only in these circumstances:
Service Providers – cloud hosting, text-to-speech vendors, large-language-model providers, email delivery platforms, analytics providers, and similar partners who operate under contractual confidentiality and security obligations.
Payment Processor – to handle subscription billing and prevent fraud.
Enterprise Administrators – if your account is managed under a team or enterprise plan, certain usage metrics may be visible to your organization’s admin.
Legal & Compliance – to comply with subpoenas, court orders, or other lawful government requests; to enforce our Terms of Service; or to defend against legal claims.
Business Transfers – in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets (we will give notice before your information becomes subject to a different policy).
Aggregated or De-identified Data – we may publish usage statistics or insight reports that cannot be linked back to you individually.
4. International Data Transfers
Brief.me is headquartered in the United States, and we may store and process your information in countries outside your own. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or other approved safeguards to protect EU/UK personal data.
5. Data Retention
Content fetched from connected services is cached only long enough to generate your daily brief—typically no more than 24 hours—unless you enable extended history in Settings.
Summaries and audio files stay in your account until you delete them or close your account.
Account, billing, and technical logs are retained as long as necessary for the purposes described above, generally no longer than seven years for financial records.
6. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including:
Encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest.
OAuth 2.0 tokens stored in hardware-backed or key-management-service (KMS)–encrypted secret stores.
Principle-of-least-privilege access controls and regular access reviews.
Routine security audits and penetration tests.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
Access the personal data we hold about you.
Correct or update inaccurate data.
Delete your data (“right to be forgotten”).
Restrict or object to certain processing.
Transfer your data to another service.
Opt out of marketing communications at any time.
To exercise these rights, use in-product controls or email hello@uprise.is. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
California residents: We do not sell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. See our separate CCPA Notice for additional details.
8. Third-Party Services and Links
Brief.me integrates with third-party platforms such as Slack, Gmail, Asana, and ElevenLabs. Your use of those platforms is governed by their own privacy policies; we encourage you to review them. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties.
9. Children’s Privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that we have inadvertently done so, we will delete the data promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Material changes will be posted on our website and, where appropriate, communicated via email or in-app notice. The “Last updated” date at the top indicates when changes take effect.
